I think I just had one of the WORST night's sleep I've had in a long time.
I started passing a kidney stone two days ago. Yesterday was really bad pain-wise and D asked if I wanted to go over to his mom's and get some pain killer in a patch that she gave me last time I passed a stone. I declined because, like the tough biatch I am, I wanted to gut it out.
It seemed to be getting a little better by the time we went to bed (which was about 9pm), but every time I woke up...and I woke up A LOT, the pain was there. I must've woken up at least 8 times, the first time being at about 11:45pm. SUCK!
Then of course, there were the times that I woke up because I was freezing cold. D has a bad little habit of stealing the covers. :p
At various time throughout the night, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to fall back asleep, but I usually did within about 20 minutes or so. But, I finally got to the point where I just couldn't get back to sleep. So, now I'm tired, in pain (my kidney and my back hurts a bit), crabby, irritated...blah, blah, blah. But I think I might've actually passed the stone completely.
K...done complaining now.

forgot to mention...
Yesterday, D and I went out to do some field work. It's a bit technical, but I'll try not to butcher the explanation of what we were doing. We were looking for a monument that the Army Corps of Engineers had placed that has elevation on it. Using that, we'd determine what the elevation of the lake is near one of the survey projects that D has.
Anyway, the first one we went looking for had gotten destroyed about 20 years ago by the land owner (guess he didn't see the notice that said he'd get a $500 fine for destroying it). The second one we looked for had gotten torn down for some reason or other. We had to walk along some railroad tracks in order to find it and, since we couldn't, we had to leave. Now I come to the whole point of this story.
The embankment between the tracks and the road was pretty steep. Most people that know me know that I'm a clutz by nature, but I was honestly being really careful. D ended up having to run down the embankment and across the street in order to keep on his feet. I waited for a couple cars to pass before attempting my descent. I was carrying a shovel (which wasn't all that heavy, but probably put me a tad off balance to start with). When I took my first step, my foot started sliding, so I took another step to try and catch myself. Unfortunately, that gave my upper body too much forward momentum for my feet to catch up and I landed smack in the middle of the road. Thankfully, I knew the next car was a ways away, but still... I landed mostly on my right knee, which got scraped to hell and back. My hands were scraped a little bit, but not bleeding at all. I was alright, just sore. I mean, it's not the first time I've scraped my knee and not the first time I've done it falling in the middle of the street with a car coming (and that other time, the car was much closer). But, needless to say, I freaked D out with that little accident. He was on the phone with a client and turned back just in time to see me fall. All I heard was "Oh S***! I'll call you back." Um...yeah...I think I scared him a little bit. *giggles* I really was fine, though.
When we got home, he made me show him my knee and it was a right bloody mess. Not dripping or anything, but messy. I didn't care about doing anything with it...I mean it's just a scraped knee. But he insisted on putting Peroxide on it and Neosporin and bandaids... He takes such good care of me. :)
It looks much better today, but still stings like the dickens. :p Stupid knee.
(oh, and it's a little worse, but not as long lasting as the effects from the afore mentioned vodka fiasco)

better late than never
I won't go into detail about Christmas since it's, like, after New Years, but I'll say a few words about it. In a nutshell...it was cool. D and I went over to his parent's house on Christmas Eve and had food, opened presents...y'know, the usual.
We spent Christmas day here and just hung out and opened presents around 2pm or so. We also watched South Park the movie that D got from his mom for Christmas.
New Years was no big thing for us. We stayed here at home and drank a little bit. Surprisingly enough, not as much as we've done in the past, but that was completely okay with me considering a recent vodka fiasco we had.
In other news, both D and I are attempting to quit smoking. Not a New Years resolution really...more of a "let's save money" resolution. He's been a smoker since he was about 12 and so have I off and on. I'd quit for a few months before I moved here, but considering how stressful it was, it wasn't too difficult to pick up the habit. Fairly recently, D and I were spending over $50 a week on smokes. So, instead of buying by the carton, we're buying by the pack and the cheapest, nastiest tasing cigarettes we can find. Considering that we were up to about 4 packs a day between the two of us and the last pack we bought lasted us over a day, we're doing pretty good so far.
Unfortunately, we've already experienced the irritation that comes with trying to quit smoking. I didn't really snap at him yesterday, but we got into it a little. And then this morning, we had a neighbor complain about our puppy barking at him and I could tell D was getting quite stressed out.
In addition to that stress, I'm looking for a part-time job and he's considering canning his business and going back to work for someone else. Plus, we're still considering moving to another place. I just hope the stress and irritation of quitting smoking ends before we end up at each other's throat.
