*big sigh of relief*

Now that everything has somewhat settled down, I can actually post about what's been going on.

D and I have moved from the house we were living in to the guesthouse on his parent's property in South Knoxville (which I think is one of the second biggest pieces of land in this area). We started this move almost two weeks ago and have been going at it every day, starting at around 7am and ending after dark. The last few days (not including yesterday when we got up at 6am) we've been going to bed around 9:30pm and sleeping 10-11 hours.

Surprisingly enough, I didn't get as many injuries as I expected, especially considering the uber heavy desks we had to move, plat file cabinets that are probably around 300 lbs., and a 600 lb. gun safe. I kinda torqued my ankle about 3 days into the move and it was pretty sore up until a couple days ago, but it's all good now (knock on wood).

So, here's a list of my injuries...
1. Semi-twisted ankle

2. Small chunk gouged out of my index finger, right hand (from the gun safe)

3. Small slice on the index finger of my left hand (no idea how that happened)

4. Inch long burn on the back of my right hand, base of my thumb (not technically from moving, but was sleepy-eyed making toast two days into the move and burned my hand on the toaster oven

5. Bruises on various parts of my body including arms, shins, thighs, knees, and yes...hips. The number of said bruises is 17...and counting considering we still have to unload D's truck and Papaw's truck so I'm sure I'll grab a few more bruises.

But...we're officially done moving. The only reason we have to go back to that house is to get the mail and pick up our trashcans since this morning is trash day. It feels so incredibly good to finally be done.

Now, the thing is that, since we've spent almost the whole of the last two weeks moving, D hasn't been able to do any work so we've got a couple projects backed up...and... We’re supposed to get about 4 inches of snow today. I'm a bit skeptical, but that's another subject altogether.

We also both need to get regular jobs and, since D's silent partner works for UPS, it's a pretty fair bet he'd be able to get me, if not both of us in there.

As far as the snow, they were predicting a 60% chance of snow, even though it was sunny, clear skies, and about 37 degrees out for most of the day yesterday. But apparently the snow didn’t start coming down until about 5am this morning. Right now it’s just light flurries and the only accumulation I can see is about an inch of snow on the deck here. Weirdly enough, the last bad snow storm they had here was back in ’93 and the whole day it was sunny and about 70 degrees out, but then they got like a foot and a half of snow overnight. Another odd thing that happened yesterday evening that made D think for sure that we’d be getting a bit of snow was the weird way the birds were acting. When we got back from bringing our last load in from the house, we were standing out on the deck and back near the edge of the property were about 7 robins rooting around in the leaves. D said that it was because they sensed that the ground would be frozen and covered in snow and were scavenging for food before that happened. It was really weird, and kinda creepy how many there were out there.

Well, I think that’s gonna be all for now. I’m a little sleepy so I need to start hittin’ the coffee because, even though we’re all moved out, we’re not entirely moved in. We’ve got lots of unpacking to do and transferring stuff out of the trucks and into the downstairs of the guest house and out to the barn.

Ugh

I think I just had one of the WORST night's sleep I've had in a long time.

I started passing a kidney stone two days ago. Yesterday was really bad pain-wise and D asked if I wanted to go over to his mom's and get some pain killer in a patch that she gave me last time I passed a stone. I declined because, like the tough biatch I am, I wanted to gut it out.

It seemed to be getting a little better by the time we went to bed (which was about 9pm), but every time I woke up...and I woke up A LOT, the pain was there. I must've woken up at least 8 times, the first time being at about 11:45pm. SUCK!

Then of course, there were the times that I woke up because I was freezing cold. D has a bad little habit of stealing the covers. :p

At various time throughout the night, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to fall back asleep, but I usually did within about 20 minutes or so. But, I finally got to the point where I just couldn't get back to sleep. So, now I'm tired, in pain (my kidney and my back hurts a bit), crabby, irritated...blah, blah, blah. But I think I might've actually passed the stone completely.

K...done complaining now.

forgot to mention...

Yesterday, D and I went out to do some field work. It's a bit technical, but I'll try not to butcher the explanation of what we were doing. We were looking for a monument that the Army Corps of Engineers had placed that has elevation on it. Using that, we'd determine what the elevation of the lake is near one of the survey projects that D has.

Anyway, the first one we went looking for had gotten destroyed about 20 years ago by the land owner (guess he didn't see the notice that said he'd get a $500 fine for destroying it). The second one we looked for had gotten torn down for some reason or other. We had to walk along some railroad tracks in order to find it and, since we couldn't, we had to leave. Now I come to the whole point of this story.

The embankment between the tracks and the road was pretty steep. Most people that know me know that I'm a clutz by nature, but I was honestly being really careful. D ended up having to run down the embankment and across the street in order to keep on his feet. I waited for a couple cars to pass before attempting my descent. I was carrying a shovel (which wasn't all that heavy, but probably put me a tad off balance to start with). When I took my first step, my foot started sliding, so I took another step to try and catch myself. Unfortunately, that gave my upper body too much forward momentum for my feet to catch up and I landed smack in the middle of the road. Thankfully, I knew the next car was a ways away, but still... I landed mostly on my right knee, which got scraped to hell and back. My hands were scraped a little bit, but not bleeding at all. I was alright, just sore. I mean, it's not the first time I've scraped my knee and not the first time I've done it falling in the middle of the street with a car coming (and that other time, the car was much closer). But, needless to say, I freaked D out with that little accident. He was on the phone with a client and turned back just in time to see me fall. All I heard was "Oh S***! I'll call you back." Um...yeah...I think I scared him a little bit. *giggles* I really was fine, though.

When we got home, he made me show him my knee and it was a right bloody mess. Not dripping or anything, but messy. I didn't care about doing anything with it...I mean it's just a scraped knee. But he insisted on putting Peroxide on it and Neosporin and bandaids... He takes such good care of me. :)

It looks much better today, but still stings like the dickens. :p Stupid knee.

(oh, and it's a little worse, but not as long lasting as the effects from the afore mentioned vodka fiasco)

better late than never

I won't go into detail about Christmas since it's, like, after New Years, but I'll say a few words about it. In a nutshell...it was cool. D and I went over to his parent's house on Christmas Eve and had food, opened presents...y'know, the usual.

We spent Christmas day here and just hung out and opened presents around 2pm or so. We also watched South Park the movie that D got from his mom for Christmas.

New Years was no big thing for us. We stayed here at home and drank a little bit. Surprisingly enough, not as much as we've done in the past, but that was completely okay with me considering a recent vodka fiasco we had.

In other news, both D and I are attempting to quit smoking. Not a New Years resolution really...more of a "let's save money" resolution. He's been a smoker since he was about 12 and so have I off and on. I'd quit for a few months before I moved here, but considering how stressful it was, it wasn't too difficult to pick up the habit. Fairly recently, D and I were spending over $50 a week on smokes. So, instead of buying by the carton, we're buying by the pack and the cheapest, nastiest tasing cigarettes we can find. Considering that we were up to about 4 packs a day between the two of us and the last pack we bought lasted us over a day, we're doing pretty good so far.

Unfortunately, we've already experienced the irritation that comes with trying to quit smoking. I didn't really snap at him yesterday, but we got into it a little. And then this morning, we had a neighbor complain about our puppy barking at him and I could tell D was getting quite stressed out.

In addition to that stress, I'm looking for a part-time job and he's considering canning his business and going back to work for someone else. Plus, we're still considering moving to another place. I just hope the stress and irritation of quitting smoking ends before we end up at each other's throat.

Christmas Trees

We got one!!!! :-D

D got me a christmas tree yesterday! He even surprised me with it. I didn't think we were gonna get one and I was feeling a bit homesick for all that. My mom and I would put our tree up (I'd beg for it after thanksgiving, but she'd always wait 'til the first weekend in December) and either that night she'd put the lights on and we'd decorate it or else I'd put the lights on the next day and we'd all decorate it that night. I'm not much for forced family fun, but this wasn't ever "forced". Christmas time seemed to be the one time of the year that the whole family got along fairly well.

So anyway, yesterday we went out to window shop until a client was done with his meeting so we could collect on an invoice. We went to Big Lots first and then to this pottery place. It's called "something Pottery", but they have everything from clothes, to dishware, to furniture. D had been over looking at the artificial trees, but I didn't think anything of it.

Later, after collecting on the invoice we went back to the store. I wasn't sure what we were doing, but I didn't ask. We went in and back over by the trees and he asked me which one I liked better. :-D I swear I almost cried I was so freakin' happy.

We went back home after that and while D tried to nap, I cleaned the livingroom and set up the tree. It's pre lit so we didn't have to mess with any silly strings of lights. We left after I'd gotten it all set and went back to the pottery place to see about decorations. Before we went in, D handed me a $100 and told me that was for whatever decorations I wanted and whatever presents I wanted to buy for family. Oh. My! I tried to say it was okay and that I didn't NEED to buy gifts, but he ordered me to take it and buy presents. How sweet is that? :-)

I found one thing for my mom there, but they didn't have much of what I was looking for in the way of decorations. So, we went back to Big Lots where I found something else for my mom, 1 thing for my brother, and then I got garland, colored ball ornaments (that turned out not to have hooks so we're saving them for next year), and D picked up a couple packages of blue candy canes for the tree.

I couldn't help it but I was practically hopping through the aisles looking for things for the tree and then skipping around the house when we got back to decorate.

Even now, I can't stop smiling about it when I remember I have a christmas tree downstairs. :-) I mean, how many women dream of their man (or future man) surprising them with exactly what they want? I have that and I feel like the luckiest person in the world right now.

Is it sad that this is all over a christmas tree? Personally, I don't think the subject matters, it's the fact that, even though I was expecting to not have a tree this year (and pretty accepting of that fact)...he gave me one. :-) I learned a little later yesterday that it's the first time in 10 years D has had a tree.

Isn't he fabulous?!?! :-D
